MT has exploded into an infestation over time, and it's a potent lure. Buying particular variations of NBA 2K19 grants bonus MT, an attractive proposition considering that participant updates, new hairstyles, clothes and shoes need currency. Spending NBA 2K19 MT Coins on sneakers means less MT to update DJ, and less chance to hold your own in pickup or Pro-Am modes against real-world competition.

The slog to bring in money without spending real money is money; sneakers operate 1,500 MT and a single player category upgrade asks for 1,200 MT, but you only earn about 600 MT in the average game. The poking and prodding from MT-related pop-up offers when booting up a new 2K19 session irritates further. The microtransactions could be ignored, at least, when in franchise mode, one of the few parts of NBA 2K19 where MT isn't offered.

On the court, various tweaks are still enhance NBA 2K's simulation of basketball. Shots use a sharp new time meter, also in NBA 2K19, the gap between open and contested shots is appropriately important. Any guardian's hand in the area is very likely to send a jumper off course.

At default settings, fresh AI tweaks allow the opposing offense to keep possession, using the shot clock to work the ball round. Does this seem natural, however, the times of playing only six-minute quarters for realistic outcomes have passed. I adhered to nine to ten minutes each quarter to generate realistic scores at default configurations, inching nearer to the full 12 minutes of a real game.

To further increase the feeling of realism, NBA 2K19 is totally gorgeous in movement. Even excluding the stellar HDR support, tweaks to character models and textures bring out myriad smallish details. Beards seem better than anyplace else. Plus, a brand new manufacturing bundle is in place this year, from pregame national anthems to humorous bits from the studio group of Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith. The group's character models need a do-over, but their interactions remain natural. Game commentary brings over some recognizable lines (Kevin Harlan returns) yet continues to advance with guest commentators (from Kobe Bryant into ’96 dunk contest champ Brent Barry).

Of course, it's not surprising that NBA 2K19 appears good; the series has looked the role because its advent on the Dreamcast, remaining applicable visually and staking out its portion of basketball civilization. NBA 2K19 continues the trend, capturing the sense of basketball's urban centers from The Neighborhood.

It is too bad, then, the Neighborhood is covered in ads and persistent microtransaction begging. The growing drive to invest real dollars on MT impacts those seeking to construct even the most basic of participant avatars. It's too much in NBA 2K wiki, holding back nearly every mode and customization alternative. MT is an inescapable fact. But on the court -- particularly in the superb franchise manner, free of the grasp of microtransactions -- NBA 2K19 lives up to its predecessors and at times even bests them.
