and pulling a legendary is always better than pulling an epic.In mtg arena, not only is an unplayable mythic going to sit in your collection doing nothing, it still going to feel bad once you get your playset and can start doing something with the extra copies. There is an important caveat you have to keep in mind, magic doesn (yet) have hundreds of thousands of games worth of data readily accessible to every competitive player. Hearthstone in its early days had much more disagreement about optimal choices and deck diversity. Saying a game hasn been optimized and that it can be optimized are two very different statements.
I would be willing to bet quite a bit that, if mtg had anywhere close to the level of data accessibility of hearthstone, deck building would start looking a lot less flexible.Does it? If my opponent is trying to rush me down, I much rather he plays this card (5 5 rush that gives me a mana crystal) than Mukla (5 5 that gives me bananas).
Thing is when your opponent is aggro and plays huge minions early on, you rarely have the time to even use the bananas. So it often has no drawbacks. Hell sometimes it a bonus, you burn some of his cards.Sure rush allows him to burn through your taunts faster, but 1) sometimes you don even have taunts and 2) having 1 additional mana crystal every turn for the rest of the game,
will allow you to use more taunts/removal.To put it another way: Giving your opponent a mana crystal is the equivalent of them having a card that reads "0 mana, draw a card; That card is always Wild Growth; Also it cost 0 mana".Given that Wild Growth is an absurdly strong card that been in just about every druid deck since forever, it fair to say that its 2 mana cost is more than justified.
